Current Weather Conditions for Disney, OK

PENO2 : Grand Lake O' The Cherokees, Pensacola Dam Current Readings:

The land we play on is owned and operated by GDRA (Grand River Dam Authority) and offers all types of terrain from “mild to wild”. There are three major spillways hosting some of the most extreme rock crawling in the country. For those who are into trail riding, there are several trails leading through the woods that range from casual single track through the trees, muddy swamps to nasty loose hill climbs.

Since the land that we use is owned by the GRDA, it should be noted that this land is free for public use, but every now and then the Dam Authority needs to use this land for flood control. When this happens most, of where we play ends up being under 10 to 20 feet of water, running as fast as it can towards the coast. A horn will be sounded 30 minutes before opening the gates. Pay attention to activity around the dam if flood conditions are possible. The horn will sound once, but may not sound again during the 30 minute wait! When the gates do open you can expect a one-foot an hour rise in the water level. If you just arrived and you don't see anyone on the rocks, wait a while or flag down a GRDA or park ranger and check first. Also, there is access to the trails if the gates are open. However, be aware you may find yourself driving down a steep hill into a flooded valley. If there is water flowing, take a walk down the hill before you commit.

NOTICE FROM GRDA:
Due to new "Homeland Security" measures, has asked that 4-wheel activity be limited in the spillways and the main dam areas. Please do not play north of the electric line right-of-ways in these areas. You are still permitted in areas south of the right-of-ways.

THE RULES…

Do's

• Do remove all trash you bring in. This includes BROKEN parts!
Think of them as souvenirs...

• Do cleanup your oil spills. Please try to make sure there are no oil puddles when you leave. It just makes us look bad, and gives those who might try to run us off, ammunition.

• Do leave the alcohol back at camp. There's really no need for it on the rocks, and the property is considered state park authority. This means they can write you up for DUI, NO one wants that!

• Do think safety! Don't put the kids in the back seat of your jeep with out a roll bar or seat belts. The rocks can be very unpredictable and very HARD! An ambulance ride is no fun for ANYONE.

• Do wear your helmet when riding on an ATV or Motorcycle! If the rocks can split open an 8 ply TSL like a razor, you can imagine what they could do to your skull.

• Do obey the rules. We want to continue playing here, so don’t ruin it for everyone!

Don'ts

• Don't try to drive up to the metal gates. Stay off any concrete below the dams, there is a MAJOR fine involved (or you have to replace the gate, it's your option).

• Don’t drive on the power line access roads. The poor GRDA pickups look really pitiful stuck in a hole made by a 44" TSL!

• Don't drive through the big pool below Little Blue state park. That's reserved for swimming. Besides, it's a quick way to drown a motor! It gets real DEEP real FAST.
